The Elusive Orb

I have been in search of the Orb ever since I came across it that night down at the beach. It has eluded me on previous occasions yet I spotted it deep in a Crystal Caves in Yanchep national park. The Cave tour guide was not that happy with us holding up her tour as we scrambled to capture it, however how often do you come across an orb in a cave?

As the sun was setting and the waves were slowly making their way further up the beach some left over water from a previous set that had made it’s way quite far inland started to make it’s way back to the ocean.

Survived the radio show

As I previously mentioned this morning I was interviewed on Diana Kerekes – The Take Action Live Coach’s radio show. We talked in depth about my photography and process. There is a few tips in there as well as some little teasers as whats to come this year. As usual these things never go smoothly, we had a few technical issues with the platform, skype and the sound but we got there in the end.

The best way to keep your creativity alive as a photographer is to try new things. Today’s photo is a perfect example of this. I’d seen this a couple of times before, to be honest I would have expected more wedding photographers to do this type of shot. There are probably a million different ways you can do this type of photo, to alter the colour and effect but I was happy just using a plain black background.

Fremantle Docks

I was out scouting a location for a shoot down at the Fremantle wharf and this sunset presented itself. If just shows that photo opportunities present themselves in most situations. The great news was that not only did I manage to get this photo but I also turned out as a prefect location for the shoot that I was there originally to scout.

Radio personailty

LOL This coming Thursday the 2nd of February at 9:00am GMT+8 (You’ll have to work out the time yourself) I will be interviewed on an internet radio show. I haven’t got the live link yet I’ll see if I can get it a post it tomorrow so you can tune in to me talking about photography and who knows what else. They asked if there was anything that I wished to stay away from and of course I said no so this could be interesting.

Australia Day and Little Creatures

Australia Day is over and that concludes the end of the “Silly Season” for most of us. After the fireworks display a group of us went to this boutique brewery named, you guessed it, Little Creatures. While we were sitting there I turned around and loved what I saw. The textures, reflections, and leading lines to the Ferris Wheel through the window. This photo was also selected for the best of Australia Day photos in a post on Digital Camera World.

A photo a day, is it possible?

I floated the idea last week and have decided to attempt it. I won’t be taking a photo a day but I will try to post one, I will probably miss a few out but that is the intention. After a very successful year for RAW I decided it was time I put a little more time in over here so this is the start of something great.

I found an orb

We’ve been shooting quite a bit of landscape work over the past few weeks due to a new client, plus I’ve found it to be terribly relaxing . The first published work will be released soon but it’s got me thinking about trying out new things. We were down at the beach last week shooting the sunset. It was not a terribly exciting scene however we did come across this orb.

The orb is a form of light painting which requires a bit of skill, some practice and a bit of hope to get right. If you’ve been following us on facebook you would have noticed a few experiments with light painting over the last few months. These have always been done in a group situation for a bit of fun, however this was the first time we decided to try and find our own orb floating just near the sea. What do you think?

In other news

I launched the first eBook for beginner photography. The book is designed to give you enough information to have complete control over your camera. It has a series of simple to follow projects that help you increase your creativity and show you what is possible with your gear. We also have a forum running so you can ask me questions directly, share your work and generally have a fun place to talk about photography.

So that’s whats been happening in the last couple of weeks. We’ll try to post a little more frequently here as we are working on some exciting photos at the moment.

Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and looking forward to a great 2012.

We are off to a flying start this year and very excited about upcoming shoots, projects and photography getaways.

Unfortunately our Christmas getaway that I mentioned in a previous post was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, so no lush green forestry photos just yet but that will happen in the next few months leading into the cooler months.

What I can tell you is that tomorrow we will be launching our first ebook, designed for people starting out in photography, it covers so many areas and helps you to unleash your creative side, it had me hooked. Most importantly it gets you out of auto mode and straight into manual. Make sure to stop by and check it out. you will love it.

Just before Christmas we did a very fun shoot involving paint, lots of colourful paint with a stunning model and a very talented make up artist, actually we did a couple of shoots just before Christmas so we will have the photos up real soon to share with you all.

Three’s a Crowd

We’re on the home run now til Christmas which is always exciting and a fun time for Tristan and I. I can hear him whistling to the tune of “Deck the Halls” from his office as I write this lol. Our Christmas holidays this year will be down south where it tends to be a bit cooler, for those of you who know us, know we are not fans of summer. And, I’m super excited cause Tristan will take some amazing photos of trees for me (yes I’m obsessed by photos of trees) and they are quite big and impressive down there.

I’ll back track a little here and let you know what else we have been up to. First of all, I have finally convinced Tristan to start selling his prints, as I know they would look gorgeous in anyone’s home or office, click on the link and you will see what I mean. We travel high and low, in and around Perth to get these, so they are quite special to us. No doubt we will have some beautiful prints from our getaway at Christmas too. When your married to a photographer there’s always (her) the camera that comes along to every getaway. They say three’s a crowd but hey I have a open mind! Funny thing is I start looking at photo opportunities just as much as Tristan does, so it works out pretty well.

Summer, Sex and Photoshoots

It’s a hot one today in Perth, actually its been around the 36 deg mark all weekend and they keep promising us thunderstorms yet to see one, (love thunderstorms)as I grew up with ferocious ones in Sydney. So trying to write this post in very hot conditions even though the air con is on and have continuous amounts of water beside me.

If you have read Tristan’s posts lately you will know that we did a couple of workshops with Venture Photography which are always fun, we took a group of photographers to the Swan Valley along with some models and had a great day, even did a bit of wine tasting which seems to put a smile on everyone’s face, and then there was the light show, but more about that in another post, I promise. As far as shoots go we have done some gorgeous ones lately which we will post soon, Tristan is adding some magic to them first. We did a shoot last weekend with a stunning full-time model from Melbourne, she was a natural and at 6ft 1 she was a looker, can’t wait to show you her photos. Also got to work and meet Rachel, a makeup/hair artist, I feel we need to do a post on makeup artist soon, they don’t get enough credit, considering they create the look for the day, in most cases.

Another shoot we did at the beach which I am so happy with was this one, its my favourite photo to date, just love the chemistry, the pose we created, the colours, it’s just awesome. http://www.tristanjud.com/2011/11/sex-on-the-beach/

Oh i nearly forgot, we did a shoot a while back now and one of our photos caught the eye of a promotions company and was used (with our permission of course) on a poster for an event, pretty cool stuff. Check it out

Light Play 2: The Swan Valley

Light Play 2 was a great success! We and when I say we I mean myself, Mona, Seng and Gideon, took a bus load of photographers and two models into the beautiful Swan Valley to shoot in a variety of lighting conditions, which included natural light, strobes (lumopro lp160′s) and then finally a Ranger Quadra for some overpowering sun. The idea was to give the participants a taste of the different lighting equipment available, which I think we achieved.

The day was separated into 3 shoots. 2 before lunch and 1 after. The first two saw the participants start off with natural light, then after a change in location we moved into balancing natural light with LumoPro LP160′s. By this time everyone was starving so we headed off to the Iron Bark Brewery for some much needed food and a drink or two.

Following that we headed out to our final destination which while we were setting up in the vineyards the participants go to do a bit of wine tasting.

As a bonus to the participants we organised an optional light painting workshop to be run in the evening. Pretty much everyone came along and enjoyed this little bonus.

It was great meeting all the participants, in most cases for the first time. If you want to see some more photos from the workshop have a look a Seng’s post here.
